Stages of a painting

See how its done...step by step

STEP 1

After a pencil sketch is drawn, the sky and background mountains are added first

STEP 2

A small amount of definition is then added to the mountains and hills as well as light and shadows. A rough outline of trees is added to the next closest plane.

STEP 3

Some low lying clouds are added in the distance and a medium level of detail and color are added to the trees. A place for a wandering stream is left open.

STEP 4

Here's where the magic starts :)

Bright sunlight splashes through the woods. The trees, leaves and grass come alive with color. Larger and more detailed trees are added.

STEP 5

Grass and a cabin shape are added to the foreground and water to the stream. Some rocks and a canoe are now present as well.

STEP 6

More detail is given to the cabin and the foreground landscape. Ripples and reflections are also added to the water. A few beams of sunlight are added that burst through open spaces between the trees.

STEP 7  Finished!!

A fisherman with a beautiful view is added as a final detail. His size accentuates the scale of this scene and adds to the overall depth of the piece.
